About Us
Unfurl Microbakery began as a dream shared by us — Emma and Bek. We met over five years ago while working side by side in a local restaurant, where our friendship grew as naturally as a long-fermented loaf. What started as colleagues quickly turned into a partnership rooted in laughter, shared passions, and big ideas.
Somewhere between early shifts, late-night chats, and endless conversations about food, we discovered our mutual love for baking and business. In 2023, during a long-awaited coffee catch-up, we made a decision that would change everything: to bring Tamworth the highest-quality homemade sourdough — baked with patience, intention, and a whole lot of love.
Over the following year, we poured ourselves into turning that spark into something real. Early mornings, recipe testing, business planning, and a vision built on flavour, quality, and connection gradually shaped what is now Unfurl Microbakery. Today, we’re proud to supply both wholesale and retail customers across the Tamworth region with sourdough and baked goods crafted in small batches and made by hand.
Why “Unfurl”?
Choosing the right name mattered to us. We wanted something that represented not only our business, but also who we are — both as bakers and as people.
Unfurl means to make or become spread out from a rolled or folded state.
Bek discovered it unexpectedly while flipping through a gardening book, and instantly knew it felt right. When she called Emma with the idea, it clicked immediately.
The word held so many layers of meaning:
— the way a fern unravels with a new day
— the way dough relaxes and spreads as it ferments
— the personal growth we’ve experienced individually
— and the new chapter we’re stepping into together
To us, Unfurl represents growth, love, care, and the unfolding of something meaningful. It’s about spreading out into our future — becoming better bakers, better business owners, and better versions of ourselves.
Unfurl is more than a bakery name. It’s a reflection of our story, our values, and our journey so far.
Thank you for being here, for supporting two local women chasing a dream, and for letting our bread become part of your home.

Meet Emma
Emma is a proud local with deep roots in the Tamworth community. Her days are shaped by family, music, and a quiet determination that brings both steadiness and heart to Unfurl Microbakery. When she isn’t crafting dough or delivering fresh loaves, you’ll likely find her at the gym, spending time with loved ones, or playing Bari Sax with a local Big Band — music being one of the many creative threads woven through her life.
Her love for baking is grounded in the same things she values most: connection, craftsmanship, and simple moments that bring people together. And yes — she has a soft spot for a perfectly flaky croissant.
